Do you think that what we are seeing in the Mideast is the transition of Islam out of the Islamic Dark Ages?

The "Dark Ages" had very little to do with religion. That time is more correctly referred to as the Middle Age. Dark Age mainly refers to the lack of written historical record. What does that have to do with Christianity, Islam, or "humanism/atheism"?
