Solutions for cleaning ear piercing??

I had my ears pierced when I was like 8 and then had them redone because the holes closed, and both times I used plain rubbing alcohol. I used to soak a small cotton ball with it and gently wipe over the holes...they say its good for keeping the area clean so that it doesnt get infected.
