Is te amo more romantic than te quiero or are they both the same about?

I pretty much understand what they mean and the levels they are on but is te amo more serious? my boyfriend has said te amo mucho many many times to me and recently, hes been saying te quiero mucho. could this just be a random occurence of changing it up or do you think he is losing feelings for me?
