How does music become popular?

I remember listening to pop music back in the 90s and early 00s and those sure were the days. Boy bands and girl groups were cool and they were everywhere and people still made bubblegum music. Now all we get is this lame emo music of people singing about how they are losers and how they go apeshit for the darkness. I really want to see some good music again like in the style of Hilary Duff, Aaron Carter, N*Sync (in my opinion, the only time Justin Timberlake was good) and Destiny's Child. So then I had an idea. Why not make boy bands and girl groups and bubblegum cool again? Then the music industry will start making pop music again and new boy bands and girl groups and bubblegum singers will be all the rage! The one problem is that I don't know how music becomes cool. How do I get music cool? At least make emo lame so even if we don't get back the good bubblegum we don't have to listen to that garbage! Can Yahoo Answers help me out with this? And if you are one of the people in charge of getting music cool can you help me out by making pop cool again?
