Agree or disagree on destruction of temple?

The Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed close to the time of death of the last of the 12 Apostles. Any attempts to rebuild the temple have failed. Also, Roman records indicate the Ark of the Covenant was melted down for the gold. Some Christian scholars feel this was God's way of signaling the end of the old Covenant and beginning of the new covenant with Christ. How do you feel about this issue?
